Python is a general purpose high level programming language that has a text based interface. On the school computers there is a development environment called IDLE (Integrated DeveLopment Environment) installed including the Python interpreter. There is also another IDE called pyScripter which we will use more often. Python is a relatively new language conceived in the late 1980s - why is it called Python - you have to remember a certain 1970s group of comedians and their Flying Circus to understand!
You can find lots of on-line material and tutorials for Python so if you get stuck remember to "Google_it!"
