Comparative Politics - (MID/SHJ - Paper 3)

This Comparative politics section of the course is split between MID & SHJ.    MID: Parties, Pressure Groups, Civil Rights                                                                           SHJ: Constitution, President, Congress

For this comparative section it is important for you understand the theoretical approaches the examiners will require you to be able to apply to all topic-areas. These include:                                                                                                                               Rational                                                                                                                                       Cultural                                                                                                                                       Structural

This PPT should help you to get your heads around these theoretical approaches ... SO LOOK AT IT!

Preparing for comparative politics is ultimately the culmination of your studies in Politics. In order to compare aspects of government & politics from either side of the pond, you must've first studies both the UK's and USA's systems of government. Now it's time to consolidate this knowledge as well as prepare to answer comparable 12 marker questions in the exam (remember, there is no AO3 in this question - just AO1 & AO2).

Below is the crib sheet which should guide your studies in this final topic:

As a taster to get you thinking in a comparative way, this is worth viewing (it's also recommended on the Noting Guidance sheet for MID's side).

Likewise, this one's useful for insights into comparative politics between the UK & USA when it comes to elections (including this useful 4 min video below):
